About Carla Thackrah
Carla is an award winning film maker, screen composer and flautist, having twice been nominated for awards by the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, winning Best Music for a Documentary in 2005. She has a background across a large part of the arts as performer, composer, director and writer. For 10 years she was a principal flute with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, performing at the Sydney Opera House.
She runs her own film production company - See Tea Productions - specialising in the making of arts documentaries and creating music and sound for film.Â â€œThe Art of Soundâ€, for string quartet and narration was made for ABC Radio. The multi award-winning documentary, â€œSex, Drugs and String Quartetsâ€ was broadcast on ABC TV and NZ TV, shown at many international film festivals and won Carla a national award for her film score. Earlier films have won awards at WOW, Byron Bay Film Festival and Gold Coast Experimental Film Festival. She has also written scores for several short films, one of which, "Frocks Off" for SBS TV, was nominated for an Australian Guild of Screen Composers award.
Carla has a Masters degree in Music and Film from the Queensland University of Technology, lectures there part time and maintains an active performance schedule.
